Holsters and Other Equipment

Good Quality holsters and magazine carriers are crucial.  Good quality, properly adjusted equipment will improve your performance due to consistency and increased confidence based on that consistency.

Holsters and magazine carriers must:

  1. Retain the gun or magazine well, that is, the equipment must not move at all while it is in the holster.  Adjustable retention is a must in order to insure that over time proper fit can be maintained.

  2. Allow you be able to get a full grip on the gun or magazine while it is still in the holster.

  3. Not migrate around on the belt.  If the gun is not in the same place you left it, it is very difficult to have a consistent draw.

  4. Be comfortable to wear.  If it is uncomfortable you will either, not wear it on the street, or you will be thinking about how uncomfortable you are when you should thinking about the stage you are shooting.

Most of the TDSA team members and instructors use holsters and magazine pouches made by Comp-tac.  This equipment meets all of the criteria listed above and we feel that these holsters are among the best values in the industry.

A good belt is also a must.  You can have the best holsters and magazine pouches in the world, but if you do not have a good quality platform to mount them to, you will loose most  of the functionality  for which you  paid .

A belt must be:

  1. Stiff enough to support all of the equipment you will wear without sagging.  This will help insure that the equipment will not migrate.

  2. Have a strong and secure buckle or latch.

  3. The same width as the mounting slots in your holster, if your holster is the belt loop mounted type.

  4. Be comfortable to wear.

The bottom line is:  In a match, poor quality equipment can cost you time, frustration, confidence, and ultimately the match.  On the street it can cost you your life!
